This is a notice to residents of California to be aware of a wave of drifters returning to mine the soil for a second chance. Thought to have disappeared at the end of the original California Gold Rush, the current economic times and the revival of gold has summoned them back, to alchemize desperation and hopelessness into a better life.
They can be recognized by their grey tones, and they’ve taken to squatting in the spaces left vacant by the lost footage in the film “Greed” by Erich Von Stroheim. Do not attempt to speak to them, they will stay silent and look past you. It is not advised to interfere. Once they have found the gold they seek, it, like all idols, will draw the life from the idolaters, leaving them colorless and the faithful will start to fade. Residents are advised however, to maintain distance from the gold itself, as presently there is no one proven to be immune to its allure.
